Question: Why do I always have episodes of atrial fibrillation when I am sleeping? Juan (Ibiza)
Answer: Atrial arrhythmias of the atrial fibrillation type are highly dependent on changes in the autonomic nervous system. During the day the sympathetic system predominates and during sleep the parasympathetic system. In your case, fibrillation is caused by vagal (parasympathetic) hypertonia. As soon as you wake up and the sympathetic enters into action, the arrhythmia will disappear. Unfortunately, there is no 100% effective treatment against it.
