The most common cause of fatigue is too little sleep or that sleep has been poor. Fatigue can also be due to illness. Therefore, it is important to seek care if you have felt tired for more than a few weeks.
Fatigue can have different causes
Stress, depression, fatigue or anxiety are common causes of sleep problems.
Many children and adolescents fall asleep late and sleep poorly because they surf the computer or phone.
Alcohol, nicotine, caffeine and some drugs can interfere with sleep so that you feel tired during the days.
There are various diseases that can make you feel tired, but then you also have other symptoms at the same time. Examples of diseases are hypothyroidism and the onset of heart failure.
If you are so tired that you have difficulty staying awake during the day, it may be because you are snoring and have short breathing breaks when you sleep, so called sleep apnea.
Sometimes the fatigue can be due to a lack of any substance in the body, such as iron. Iron deficiency is common in menstruation.
When and where should I seek care?
Contact a health care center if you are so tired that you cannot manage your everyday life or if the fatigue lasts for a couple of weeks.

You can feel more alert by doing the following:
- Exercise regularly, but not before you go to bed.
- Staying outdoors a lot.
- Eat healthy and at regular times.

Depending on what causes the fatigue, you may need treatment. It may be about getting help to change your lifestyle, changing your medication or treating deficiencies or illnesses.
Influence and participate in your care
You can seek care at any medical center or open specialist clinic you want throughout the country. Sometimes referral to the open specialized care is required.
In order for you to be involved in your care and treatment, it is important that you understand the information you receive from the healthcare personnel. Ask questions if you don’t understand. For example, you should get information about treatment options and how long you may have to wait for care and treatment.
Children should also be involved in their care. The older the child, the more important it is.
