Is there a risk of heart attack during catheterization?

Question: I have to undergo catheterization for heart problems that sometimes cause fatigue and breathing difficulties. Is there a risk of cardiac arrest? Are there no less invasive tests? Gemma (Gijón).

Answer: Although catheterization is an invasive test, current advances make its risks extremely low. What's more, the possibility of cardiac arrest is absolutely exceptional in a diagnostic catheterization like the one you're going to have.
