We must brush our teeth after each main meal, that is, after breakfast, lunch and dinner. In case of not being able to perform any of the brushings, the most important is the one after dinner, since the food remains will remain in the teeth until the next day, which favors that the bacteria that accumulate affect the enamel.
Brushing will also include tongue cleaning, which accumulates significant amounts of bacteria. To clean it, we will gently rub it with a soft bristle brush or with a special lingual cleanser.
The cleaning between the teeth will be done with floss or dental floss, and brushing the teeth will be done with a brush. This should have a small rounded head to easily reach all teeth. Its filaments should be soft and rounded tips to avoid injury to the gums. The brushes usually last three months.
Toothpaste or toothpaste helps to leave us feeling more clean. They come in the form of paste or gels more or less liquid. There are different models of toothpaste in the market, each with special characteristics depending on its composition (with bleach, with different amounts of fluoride, antibacteria, for sensitive gums…).
There are several tooth brushing techniques, which are aimed at cleaning the internal, external and chewing faces. The duration of brushing should be at least three minutes, devoting time to the inner and lateral side of the teeth, not only to the external or "visible" face. After brushing, flossing and mouthwash can be used to complete the treatment. It is important to go to the dentist twice a year to assess dental health and prevent gum problems and the appearance of tooth decay.
In the case of children, apart from starting to brush their teeth after two years of age, they should floss as soon as their teeth are together. However, during the first years it will be necessary for an adult to help them until they learn to use it correctly.
