Question: How can we know the real heart rate in an AF? How should we take it? Does the ECG give us the actual heart rate? Adela (Madrid)
Answer: The electrocardiogram (ECG) gives accurate information on the number of beats/minute averaged. In atrial fibrillation, taking the heart rate by the radial pulse can be misleading. The important thing is that the pulsations oscillate between 50 and 100 per minute.
