Question: Can a person with hypotension have a heart attack? Miguel (Gijón).
Answer: Hypotension, except in extreme situations, does not usually cause heart attacks. It can happen that a certain person, due to illness, major bleeding or a very high dose of medication for hypertension, has a blood pressure so low that it is insufficient to carry the blood that the heart needs. Usually having low blood pressure (90-60 mmHg) is a good thing for the heart and blood vessels because the load they have to bear is less.
